Opening a bank account in France will be easier, if the bank in your home country, has a partnership with a French network. If this isn’t the case, you should book appointments as soon as you arrive in France, with the banks closest to your home or school, and compare the different services they offer. Some banks offer special rates to students, or those 25 years old and younger.

Before opening a bank account, the bank will verify your identity and your address. You will also be asked to present a proof of address and the following documents:

  • passport or identity card
  • residence permit (except for European students)
  • student card or school registration certificate
  • proof of address (bill which includes your address: telephone bill, rent receipt, housing certificate).

Advice:
  • Choose a bank close to your home
  • Special offers are often available for students 25 years old and younger
  • Compare the price of the bank card, and the annual account fees
