By encouraging students to write personal and original pieces in English, the workshop aims at developing their fluency and creativity in English.

- experiment with several literary forms;
- write personal pieces based on a prompt or a topic;
- provide critical and constructive feedback on other students’ writings;
- decide on the stylistic strategies which can enhance their writing;
- proofread and improve their first draft to suit their purpose in writing.

Program

Methods of Instruction

The class is a collaborative space for experimentation, allowing much freedom to the students. Guidelines, prompts, and feedback are provided orally or in writing at each class. Some guided readings will be assigned to the students, to foster reflection on notions such as creativity, literary genres, translation, etc.

Assessment and Final Grade

Students will have to provide a selection of written pieces. The first draft will be written in class and the improved, final draft will have to be submitted after a few weeks. One piece will be fully written in class, in two hours. The final grade will be calculated as follows: 50% for the
pieces submitted by the end of the semester/ 50% for the in-class “Test piece”.
