Learning Objectives: This course is designed to focus on some of the fundamentals of grammar in the English Language. In the first semester, we will build from a general overview of tenses, with a focus on the Present Perfect and the Past Perfect, to using the Third Conditional, then onto making assumptions (must have, can’t have, needn’t have). In the second semester, we shall address the various aspects of the Future in English (Future continuous, Future Perfect, etc), the Passive voice and some passive structures (to have something done, to have someone do something), and finally we shall work on the use of phrasal verbs. Students will not be writing papers in this class, rather they will be approaching writing in a more focused way as we break each aspect of a sentence down week by week. Students taking this class can expect to gain a much better understanding for proper grammatical writing. By the end of the course, they will gain an all around better grasp on the technical aspects of writing in the English language.
This course is designed to improve student’s grammar, punctuation, and all around writing skills, and lessons will involve student participation of repetitive practice exercises to instill these skills.
