Students will need to acquire methods to understand an audio or video document, by focusing on details such as the images, the light, the tone of the people who speaks as well as the rhythm which is adopted.
Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to: Determine the atmosphere and the tone of a document to study. Be able to understand the most important elements in a message. Use every possible detail so as to use them as a help to seize the full dimension of a message.
Students will study extracts from films, series, advertisements, or reports and will be requested to comment on the elements which are present in the given documents. They will determine the meaning of the messages as well as the way they are conveyed.
Assessment and Final Grade
Assessment will take the form of coursework made of such tasks as: a mock trial, a parliamentary debate, a short, filmed scene, an advertisement, a parody of a known film or series. The criteria for assessment will rely on phonology, intonation, and language precision (grammar and vocabulary)
